More than thirty five years later, glow in the dark stickers are just as popular as when they first arrived on the market. And they are not just fun for children, as this article reveals ...
Along with the psychedelic movement of the 1960's, came glow in the dark stickers, which quickly gained popularity in the culture. Glow in the dark stickers became home décor. People snapped up this handy and cool invention in droves. Manufacturers produced entire constellation sets, star motifs and some popular comic book characters, all ready to create whatever nighttime view you wanted to find on your ceiling or walls. Today, the assortment of shapes and themes has expanded. More than thirty five years later, these glowing decorations are just as popular as when they first arrived on the market.
Imaginative buyers began decorating closets, clothing, backpacks, overnight bags, and even furniture. The glow in the dark sticker craze was taken up by kids, teenagers and adults with equal enthusiasm.
Manufacturers took stock of their lucrative market and came out with three-dimensional puffy vinyl or PVC stickers with raised surfaces to enhance the effect of the glow.
Of all the designs available, stars and the heavenly bodies are still the most popular, patterning many a ceiling with a soothing nighttime display.
For children and other comic book enthusiasts, you'll find entire books, filled to the brim with peel-and-place stickers. X-Men, Batman and Spiderman are the most common comic-book sticker characters. For the more feminine audience, there are also heart and flower shaped glow in the dark stickers. For a unisex or hippie approach, there are peace signs and smiley faces.
Bathrooms are another popular location, especially with kids in the house. You can literally paper the walls and ceilings with stars and constellations. No night light needed.
Some people have found a special place on their clothing for the glow in the dark sticker. At nightclubs, you'll find it's not uncommon to spot little glowing shapes dancing merrily in beat with the music. People stick these little guys all over their clothes and bodies, making the glow in the dark sticker stand out even more in the strobe lights and multi-color light displays inside the club.
Club nightlife isn't the only opportunity to showcase your new little friends. Most girls, at some point or another, spend the night at a girlfriends house, toting her overnight bag with her. That bag or backpack, decorated with glow in the dark stickers is fun and safety conscious.
With the variety of uses and the versatility of the glow in the dark sticker, it's hard not to want a set. Flat or puffy, these glowing little adhesive pieces of whimsy have so many uses and places to show them off and look as though they're here to stay. However you use the glow in the dark sticker, remember that its uses go as far as your imagination!
